Dr. Marty Jencius is an Associate Professor in Counselor Education and Supervision at Kent State University. He received his B.A. in Biology and my M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received his Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina. Prior to coming to Kent, Dr. Jencius had a faculty appointment at Columbus State University. While at Kent State University his scholarly interest emerged in international aspects of counseling and counselor training. That interest has provided him the opportunity to teach counseling and to make multiple trips to Turkey, the Bahamas and Singapore. His other interests include multicultural counseling training and the use of technology in counseling. Prior to academia, he has had sixteen years of clinical experience including employment as an addictions counselor, a clinical mental health counselor, working with emotionally handicapped children, and in a private practice serving business and industry.

Dr. Jencius was a proponent technology use to the counseling field as far back as 1994. He is founder and listserv manager of
CESNET-L, co-founding editor of The Journal of Technology in Counseling, founder/producer of CounselorAudioSource.net, and founder of Counselor Education in Second Life. He is on the editorial boards of The International Journal for the Advancement of Counselling, The Journal of Technology in Counselor Education, and The Journal of Family Issues. Dr. Jencius is past president of The Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and currently serves on the Governing Council of The American Counseling Association. He developed The PodTalk Network (PodTalk for counselors) which he produces other counselor educator's podcasts, and is creator of The Circular Firing Squad podcast, a podcast roundtable of questions and answers.

He has published over 100 journal articles and manuscripts, over 100 podcasts, 20 book chapters, and 2 books. 

As a faculty member he teaches Advanced Counseling Theories, Family Therapy, Advanced Multicultural Counseling, Psychopathology, and College Teaching in CES. He has traveled to speak and work in Scotland, Malaysia, Turkey, The Bahamas, and Singapore.
